Today devs are drowning in choice: IDEs with built-in AI, endless new models, and a growing list of CLI agents (Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, and more).

So here’s the stack I’ve been using across a bunch of real-world use cases -planning, coding, reviews, and “ship it” workflows.

My current AI dev stack

IDE: Visual Studio Code Insiders - I work in VS Code Insiders to get early access to new features and faster drops for Copilot/AI capabilities. It’s been a solid “latest + stable enough” balance for daily work.
In-editor assistant: GitHub Copilot - GitHub Copilot is my default assistant in the IDE. At Microsoft, we use GitHub for our repos, and Copilot helps me manage the full SDLC from end to end - starting in the editor, delegating tasks to agents, opening issues, building features from those issues, and reviewing PRs.
Agentic Layer - OpenCode ( Open Source ) - Recently, I switched to OpenCode, an open-source AI coding agent, because it’s flexible:
1. It can connect to almost any model or provider.
2. As a Microsoft employee, I can also hook it up to Microsoft Foundry and even mix in models like Mistral or Grok.
3. I’m integrating it with GitHub Copilot.
  - My Split:
    - Planning: GPT-style “codex” model - GPT-5.2-Codex
    - Implementation: Claude Opus-style model Claude Opus 4.5 ( best results for me on day-to-day coding )
Terminal / CLI: Warp
If we’re talking CLI, Warp is my favorite. It makes the terminal feel like a modern dev tool (not a 1980s relic) and it’s getting genuinely useful agentic workflows.
Repo + platform workflows: GitHub
GitHub is still the best home base for code + collaboration, especially with Copilot/agent capabilities directly in the platform:
- Code reviews
- Issues + task delegation
- PR workflows even from mobile And with GitHub agents, I can also bring tools like Claude Code into the loop for issues and PR reviews.
Bonus: Voice → text for faster flow
One more add-on that’s surprisingly impactful: voice-to-text. It’s a simple way to “think out loud” and feed the CLI/agent with clearer instructions.
